DETOX IN SOUTH FLORIDA

If you or a loved one is addicted to drugs or alcohol, detoxification is the often the first step in treatment. Principles Recovery Center works with a number of medical detox programs in South Florida that offer around-the-clock medical care, modern protocols, and comfortable amenities. If you are looking for a South Florida detox program, Principles Recovery Center can help.

Many people make the mistake of viewing recovery as a task they must check off their to-do lists, but that’s not the right way to look at it. Instead, recovery is a journey by which an individual who suffers from a substance use disorder is able to achieve sobriety while learning skills that will help him or her to maintain a lifestyle of lasting recovery. For many individuals, that recovery journey begins with riding all the toxic substances from the body at a drug & alcohol detoxification program.

WHY DRUG AND ALCOHOL
DETOXIFICATION IS NEEDED

While counseling can help an individual overcome the psychological aspects of addiction, medical detoxification addresses the physical or physiological aspects of the disease. Specifically, the drug and alcohol detox offered by our partners provides individuals with the tools to overcome the physical dependence on alcohol or drugs. It’s a crucial part of the treatment and recovery process for a number of reasons:

  • It helps clients safely manage withdrawal symptoms that could be dangerous or fatal without medical intervention
  • It provides clients with any medications they may need to keep their bodies stable and as comfortable as possible during the detox process
  • It keeps clients safe from exposure to alcohol or drugs so that they do not immediately relapse
  • It sets clients up for success when they enter our treatment programs

Understanding Withdrawal Symptoms

HOW A DRUG DETOX IN SOUTH FLORIDA CAN
HELP MANAGE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

The benefits of drug detox

At Principles Recovery Center, we pride ourselves on offering a thorough, comprehensive drug treatment program. If we determine that detox is necessary for a client, we refer them to one of the top detox programs throughout South Florida. These programs utilize the latest in addiction medicine and offer a comfortable detoxification process.

The first phase of detoxification (beginning within a few hours of the last use and lasting for up to several days) is the most difficult and intense phase of treatment, but it’s also the phase in which clients have the greatest level of staff support and care. Our partnered detox centers offer round-the-clock nursing and medical supervision.

Never Be Alone Again

Come Join Our Recovery Family

It’s not easy to go from daily substance use to being completely alcohol- and drug-free. When people in active addiction go without their drug of choice, they experience withdrawal symptoms. Detox is crucial in helping to alleviate or mitigate physical withdrawal as much as possible. Common withdrawal symptoms include:

sweating Sweating

excessive yawning Excessive Yawning

watery eyes Watery Eyes/Runny Nose

general anxiety General Anxiety

agitation Agitation

achy muscles Stiff and/or Achy Muscles

Loss of Appetite Loss of Appetite

Insomnia Insomnia

To varying levels, these symptoms can be relieved with medications designed to aid in the withdrawal process, vitamins and supplements, sufficient sleep, and a healthy, balanced diet. In the event that clients experience more severe withdrawal symptoms (including but not limited to aggression, delirium tremens, self-injury, or symptoms of psychosis), the trained staff at an inpatient drug detox program can provide the appropriate care.

Our detox partners in South Florida all have the same goal: to stabilize the client physically so that they are ready to transition to the psychological and spiritual components of treatment at Principles Recovery Center. It’s not uncommon for clients to experience cravings for alcohol and drugs even after detox ends. Our therapists provide the emotional and mental support to help clients learn to manage these cravings and sustain long-term sobriety.

Preparing for Detoxification

What to Expect at a South Florida
Detox Center

No one form of addiction treatment is ideal for every client. Instead, clients should receive individualized treatments that best correspond to their needs and preferences. For instance, not all substances require medical detoxification. Substances like heroin, opioids, benzodiazepines, and alcohol cause more severe withdrawal symptoms, making medical detox a necessity in most cases.

1

Length of Use

Besides the substance of addiction, a number of other factors will determine whether detoxification treatment is necessary. One of the most important of these factors is the length of time spent in active addiction; individuals who have only been addicted to a mind-altering substance for a brief period of time can often go straight into the treatment phase of recovery, while those who have suffered from addiction for an extended period of time — years or perhaps even a decade or more — would benefit from an initial period of detoxification.

2

Treatment History

Another factor that should be considered is an individual’s background in substance misuse. In particular, if there have been previous attempts at sobriety or if the individual had suffered from addiction at an earlier point in life and relapsed, completing detoxification prior to treatment can serve as a primer for lifelong recovery. In other words, the client would be in a much better position and more receptive to the treatment program if he or she completed detoxification before beginning treatment.

3

Detox Period

In addition to the length of addiction, the types of drugs used and the existence of physical or mental disorders will also affect the length of detox. Our goal is to ensure you are placed in the most comfortable environment for as long as is needed. We partner with many detox facilities, so you can start detox in Fort Lauderdale, Plantation, or wherever we can find a location that suits your needs.
